Hunting

All those great things you've heard about hunting in Montana are true. Big Sky Country is fabulous hunting country and that includes the Missouri Breaks of the Fort Peck area.
The timbered ridges near the lake are home to some huge elk and some big mule deer bucks. You'll find some white-tailed deer in Garfield County as well, along with some excellent hunting for pronghorn antelope.
One of the unique ways that hunters go looking for elk and mule deer in the Breaks is by boat, launching from Hell Creek and then using binoculars and spotting scopes to pinpoint animals on the ridges leading down to the lake. At times, they'll set up base camps on the lake shore or they stay in the Hell Creek Marina's rooms and head out onto the lake early in the morning.
