June 8, 2013 - Northern and small
mouth are hitting quite well pulling cranks at 10 to 15 feet. Walleye are
still a bit slow, but you can luck into them around Snow Creek for numbers and
Crooked for size using a white jig and a minnow.
April 3, 2013 - The entire bay is
open but there is still ice on the main lake.
March 13, 2013 - There will be no
more ice fishing this season. The ice is completely crystalized and is
longer safe to walk on.
March 3, 2013 - Walk-on fishing
only!! The northern and perch fishing is great in the bay, but the ice is
only safe for walking on. Driving on the ice is finished for this year.
March 1, 2013 - The ice is still
fishable but extreme caution is necessary. Pressure ridges are spreading,
shoreline is breaking off, and some places are honey-combing.
February 25, 2013 - The ice
in the bay is still good. Northern and perch are still biting.
February 18, 2013 - We have good ice
(12 to 14 inches) in the bay and going west. The warm weather has opened some
holes on the edges and there are pressure ridges that you have to watch for. The
northern bite is amazing. There have been some 40 inchers come out of the bay.
February 7, 2013 - Still great
fishing for the northern and perch. Finally have some lakers coming in but
not many. Walleye are out at the main in 14 to 18 feet of water.
February 2, 2013 -
Tournament day! The ice is great and have a lot of people for the
tournament. The fishing has been great for northern and perch, so
we will see what happens.
January 24, 2013 -
We have a foot of ice on the bay and some excellent
northern and perch fishing. Fish as far west as you want, but east still has
only 2 1/2 to 3 inches of ice.
January 16, 2013 - The bay is
producing a great amount of northern. Due to the warm weather, it is
unsafe to cross the main lake or to head east. The bay still has 10 inches
of ice, but there is a lot of water sitting on top. If you want to fish the main
lake, please stay on the south side, and only go west.
January 13, 2013 - Ice update: 8 to
10 inches on the bay and onto the main lake going west. Please stop at the
marina for safety information if you are going to Sutherland. It is possible but
only by certain routes.
January 11, 2013 - There is 7 to 8
inches of ice on the bay and 5 to 7 inches on the main lake. The ice gets
thinner as you go east. Pay attention to pressure ridges and avoid them.
A few more walleye showing up and the northern are really biting.
January 8, 2013 - We now have 7
inches of ice on the bay. No change on the main lake yet. Not a lot
of fisherman out right now, but the few that are here are having good luck with
the northerns.
January 6, 2013 - No changes in the
ice. Still good northern fishing and a few lakers. Also have some
nice perch being caught.
January 3, 2013 - The ice is
still the same. Not gaining anything because of the warm weather
but at least we are not losing any either. We have many northern
coming in from out in the bay. A few walleye but probably won't
have many until the main freezes.
January 1, 2013 - There is 6 inches
of ice on the bay and 3 inches on the main lake. No fishing report
available yet.
December 31, 2012 - We have 4 inches
of ice on the bay all the way to the main lake. 4-wheelers are okay on the
ice, although caution is advised. The main lake should be avoided as there
is only 1.5 inches of ice so far. Happy fishing:)
December 13, 2012 - There is no ice
on the bay yet, but hopefully by the first of the year if the weather stays cold.
Remember to join us for our annual ice fishing tournament on February 2, 2012.
Call for details: 406-557-2345 or 406-557-2045.
October 17, 2012 - It seems the
walleye have once again gone deep and become elusive. A few are still
coming in though. However, it is a northern fisherman's dream. You
can almost anchor and watch them jump in the boat. Cranks, spoons, or a
spinner with some orange and silver have been great. Target the weed beds
and you are sure to find them. Small mouth are also still hitting quite
well. Northern and smallys are being caught from the shore, as well.
August 27, 2012 - Still
great northern fishing on cranks or spoons. Catch smallys on
spinners.
August 15, 2012 - The
Northern Pike bite is amazing. You can hardly keep them off your hook.
Pitch a jig or a spinner or pull a crank bait and you are sure to have
success. Small mouth are also hitting well. You can find both in 14 to
18 feet of water. Smaller walleye are coming in, but the big ones are
still pretty elusive. The dedicated fisherman can still find them,
though.
July 30, 2012 - Great
tournament last weekend! Nice walleye caught between 15 and 20
feet on bottom bouncer with orange or chartreuse.
July 20, 2012 - Still
phenomenal fishing! Walleye have moved to some deeper water, 12 to
18 feet.
July 11, 2012 - Not much
change from last week. Great fishing for all species!
June 29, 2012 - The Northern
Pike bite is amazing. Small mouth are also hitting well. You can find
both in 14 to 18 feet of water. Walleye are still shallow between 3 and
8 ft.
June 21, 2012 - Unbelievable
fishing!!! Any species you want, you can catch. Northern, walleye,
bass, perch, crappie...You can't go wrong. Walleye are shallow between 3
and 8 ft. Bottom bouncing is working well. Still using orange and
chartreuse on the main lake points. Nice northern coming from Sutherlin.
June 13, 2012 - Walleye are
moving this way. Just west of Snow Creek on the south side.
Northern at Sutherlin.
June 5, 2012 - Some northern in the
bay but they have slacked off a bit. Small mouth and perch are still hot.
The walleye have finally turned on. Anglers are travelling to Bone Trail
and beyond, but the trip is worth it. Most are getting their limit on
walleye, with some nice 7 and 8 pounders mixed in. Jigging with orange or
chartreuse with a leech in 6 to 10 ft. of water is working well.
May 23, 2012 - Northern and small
mouth are really biting on spoons and spinners (orange and silver) in 15 - 18
feet. Nice size perch coming in, too. The walleye have moved to just
west of Snow Creek and are starting to bite quite well. They are in 12-17
feet of water. A jig and a minnow with a pretty slow presentation seems to
work the best.
May 17, 2012 - The walleye
are starting to bite in the Timber Creek area. Mostly smaller ones
but a few in the 8 lb. range. They are hitting on a jig with a
minnow or a crawler. Northern and bass are still biting.
May 4, 2012 - Northern,
perch, and small mouth bite is still hot. Northern are in 10-15
feet of water.
April 24, 2012 - Great fishing this
weekend at the tournament. A lot of northern, perch, bass, and walleye
caught. All are quite shallow. Using a jig and a minnow or pitching
spoons in 2-12 feet of water will likely produce some good fish.
April 18, 2012 - Fishing is
a bit slow due to the spawn, but it should pick up soon.
April 12, 2012 - Northern
and Walleye have moved into the shallows for the spawn. Northern
bite has slowed down a bit, but the walleye are starting to bite.
April 3, 2012 - The northern
and perch bite is great. Target Northern in 10-15 feet of water
with a jig and a minnow.
March 23, 2012 - The lake is
completely free of ice so come out and fish. The northern bite is great on
cranks at 20-25 feet.
March 16, 2012 - Most of the bay
will be open in the next couple of days. The main should be open by early
next week. Time to get the boats out, anglers:)
March 10, 2012 - Well, ice fishing
is over for another year. All ice in the bay is rotten. Projected
ice off: 10 days to 2 weeks.
