2009 Hell Creek Ice Fishing Tourney Jan. 31, 2009 Barnes, Kappel top field at ice tourney Pat Barnes and Dave Kappel, of Jordan, were the big winners in the 2009 Hell Creek Marina Ice Fishing Tournament with 29.1 pounds. The win was worth $554 with Clint Thomas, of Jordan, taking second. Sponsors, including Sportsman's Warehouse, donated many prizes to the event and were responsible for making the annual one-day tournament a great success. Here are the top finishers in the Jan. 31 event: First place: Pat Barnes and Dave Kappel, Jordan, 29.1 pounds on three lake trout, $554. Second place: Clint Thomas, Jordan, 13.80 pounds on 9.05-pound and 3.5-pound northern pike and 1.25-pound walleye, $372. Third place: -Tim and Kelly Denton, Belgrade, 8 pounds on 1 northern and 2 walleyes, $227. Fourth place: Tony Phipps, Jordan, 7.05-pound northern, $125. Fifth place: Wes and Karen Ovitt, Joliet, 2.65 pounds on 3 walleyes, $102. Best walleye prize: Ryan Murnion, Jordan, 0.05-pound walleye.
